Plan ahead for holiday fun

This season wouldn’t be the festive season without a few parties. With Christmas and New Year on the horizon, planning ahead can help you stay safe.

Staying safe is even more important at this time of year, as the number of people attending sexual health clinics increases after the holiday period.

Some people choose to take intermittent/event-based PrEP if they are planning to party.

This involves taking two pills between 2-24 hours BEFORE sex. Then one pill daily for two days after the last session of condomless sex. Studies have shown that taken correctly it works as well as taking a pill every day.

PrEP can help you avoid HIV infection but that doesn’t mean there will be no unwanted surprises for the New Year. Other infections can still be passed on if you are having sex without condoms, so come and see us in the New Year. Remember it can take up to 2 weeks for gonorrhoea or chlamydia to show up in the swab tests.
